National Assessment Unveils Alarming Drop in 8th Grade U.S. History Scores – Here Are Five Questions From the Test

The recent release of the National Assessment of Educational Progress tests, known as the Nation’s Report Card, revealed a concerning drop in eighth-grade U.S. history scores. They reflected a downward trend that started almost ten years ago and was further exacerbated by the pandemic.

The assessment was based on a comprehensive examination given to a representative selection of eighth-grade students nationwide. Only a limited number of students demonstrated proficiency in the subject.
