American photographer captures the towering Kashmir Giants
Imagine the stir caused by the sight of two men, each standing over 7 feet tall, in a crowd of ordinary stature. After two years’ planning, the ceremonies began on 29 Dec 1902 with a lavish parade of elephants through the streets. Guests included a wide range of Indian princes & maharajas, with the Duke of Connaught representing the British Royal Family.

Although James Ricalton is a name synonymous with early photographic exploration, he wasn’t the only one to visit the celebrations as there were many others who came to document the event and Kashmir Giants. Their story was taken back and spread across the globe, making them known as the two giants of India. As for specific details about their life past this event, not much is recorded since they lead a quiet and private life.
Originally, these two brothers were from Balmokand, which is a place that was never recorded on any map archives, leaving researchers speculating that the name of this place must have changed sometime during the 20th century. However, their tale continues to captivate although they were not the tallest humans recorded, they still pose an impressive height compared to the average person that passes their way.
