The film, The Last Showgirl, made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this year, drawing attention with its star-studded cast. Headlined by Jamie Lee Curtis and Pamela Anderson, the film tells the story of Shelley, played by Anderson, a Las Vegas showgirl grappling with the closure of her long-running act and striving to rebuild her life. Curtis, who portrays Shelley’s best friend, Annette, praised the film and Anderson’s role, which marks Anderson’s first leading performance in years—her last major role was in the 2022 horror film Alone at Night. The premiere showcased the incredible chemistry between Curtis and Anderson, with Curtis at 65 and Anderson at 57, proving that these Hollywood icons are still at the top of their game.

Curtis was eager to join the cast of The Last Showgirl, and it wasn’t just the script that caught her attention. Curtis openly admitted that her primary motivation for signing onto the film was the chance to work with Anderson. “I did the movie because she was going to be in the movie,” Curtis said, emphasizing her admiration for the star. Despite having another project on her schedule, Curtis made a special request to arrange her filming days around The Last Showgirl to ensure she could work alongside Anderson.

Anderson has been making headlines recently, not only for her role in The Last Showgirl but also for her return to the spotlight through her memoir, Love, Pamela, and the Netflix documentary titled Pamela, A Love Story. The documentary, produced by her son Brandon Lee, delves into her life, her tumultuous career, and the media’s often harsh portrayal of her. Anderson has faced numerous scandals throughout her career, from the notorious leaked tape with Tommy Lee to the constant scrutiny of her personal life. Despite the ups and downs, Anderson’s recent work has reclaimed her narrative, bringing to light a life beyond the controversies that once defined her in the public eye.

And beautiful!” She explained that after watching the Netflix documentary, it gave her a deeper understanding of Anderson’s experiences. “I love the way she is walking through the B.S. of show business and saying, ‘I do not need to play your game,'” Curtis added. “And I respect her for it so deeply.”

Ultimately, she hopes that Anderson’s performance in The Last Showgirl will help audiences see beyond the tabloid headlines and recognize the depth and resilience that Anderson embodies. As Curtis put it, “She’s been very honest about how society has treated her… But I hope we will all have a newfound appreciation for her talents after they see the movie.”
