The plot of Indiana Jones 5 is still shrouded in secrecy, which has allowed theories surrounding the plot to flourish. One of the most prominent theories surrounding the new Indiana Jones movie is that it might center around some sort of time travel plot. It is possible that new photos published by The Daily Mail confirm these time travel theories.

The Director of the newest installment of the Indiana Jones franchise, James Mangold, has stated that the film will take place in the 1960s. When you add this detail with other pieces of information that have emerged about the film, one of the only “logical” explanations seems to be time travel. For example, a video published by NYMR (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) on the set of the new movie in June of 2021 confirms that viewers will see the return of the Nazis in some form during the film.

Obviously, by the 1960s, the Nazis had long since surrendered, so the fact that they will appear in some capacity in the film adds fire to the time travel theory. However, it’s possible that new photos published yesterday by The Daily Mail confirm this.

Other production photos released earlier showed a stunt double with a young Harrison Ford mask, which could suggest that Indiana Jones 5 will utilize Disney’s CGI de-aging technology. If this is true, that could mean that the movie may feature multiple timelines.

These new photos, taken on set, show actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge shooting some scenes with Harrison Ford. However, perhaps more interesting is the group of actors dressed as Roman gladiators that can clearly be seen on set.

The Roman soldiers were seen lining up behind a barricade and then charging forward with their swords in the air.

These Roman gladiator-type characters were photographed rowing a large boat and yielding ancient swords and shields. Knowing that the plot is set in the 1960s, added to the notion that Nazis will make an appearance in the film, a possible young Indiana Jones, and now ancient Roman gladiators, it seems more and more likely that Indiana Jones 5 will feature a time travel component.

Filming has taken place in London, Glasgow, North York, and now Sicily. At this point, time travel seems like the only logical option for a movie that includes elements from the 1960s, 1940s, and ancient times. Indiana Jones 5 is set to release on July 29, 2022.
